Learn how a group of local residents campaigned to get Parc Llewelyn protected forever with Fields in Trust, so it could be enjoyed by generations to come.
Parc Llewelyn was once a grand place with a boating lake, sports fields, a bowling green, a “ladies walk” all set within a manicured parkland environment. Sadly, over the years the park fell into a poor state of repair and suffered with anti-social behaviour.
In order to do something about this, local residents formed the Friends of Parc Llewelyn, and began to champion the space and challenge the council to bring about improvements. The volunteers worked tirelessly to improve the whole of the park environment with some considerable achievements.
They started litter-picking, tree planting and maintaining the site regularly. They even successfully received grant funding to improve the infrastructure of the park including getting new signage and interpretation panels which improved the park, made it more welcoming and increased use by the community.
By showing how much the park meant to them, the Friends group were able to convince the local authority to increase maintenance and together they took the park from strength to strength. They also campaigned to get Parc Llewelyn protected forever with Fields in Trust, so it could be enjoyed by generations to come.
