Green spaces are like the unsung heroes of public health. They provide us with a place to exercise, to play, and to connect with one another. They help us breathe a little easier, both literally and metaphorically. When we step into a park, we step away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. We find a moment of peace, a chance to recharge, and an opportunity to reconnect with nature. In a world where many of us feel increasingly isolated, these spaces can be a remedy for our disconnection.
Fields in Trust has been a champion for protecting these precious places for nearly a century. As the organisation approaches its 100th anniversary in July 2025, I am thrilled to lend my voice and support to their mission. Their work to safeguard parks, playing fields, and green spaces resonates deeply with me. By preserving these areas, we are not just protecting land; we are ensuring that future generations have the same opportunities to experience the joy and benefits of nature that I did as a child.
I believe that everyone deserves access to green spaces, no matter where they live. Parks should be places of joy, where families gather, children play, and communities thrive. They should be safe havens for wildlife, too, allowing us to coexist with the natural world.
As I embark on this journey with Fields in Trust, I invite you all to join me in celebrating and protecting our green spaces. Let’s advocate for their importance in our communities and ensure they continue to inspire a love for nature in all of us. Together, we can make a difference—one park, one playing field, and one community at a time.
Here’s to a future where green spaces flourish, and our connection to nature grows stronger!
Best wishes,
Tony Juniper, CBE
