The memorial commemorates those from the area who fell during conflict including 2,597 men and three women who gave their lives during World War I and is based on a Roman water garden.

A semi-enclosed temple, formed by a rectangular panel of stone carved with theatres of World War I, sits at the centre o f a colonnade of four-sided columns and in front of the temple is a memorial pool with fountain. The Memorial is dedicated to “The Service Men and Women of Brighton Who Gave Their Lives In The First World War1914-1918 The Second World War 1939-1945 And Subsequent Campaigns”.
