Marshalls Park sits within a Local Nature Reserve and is bordered on one side by the River Brain. It is located close to a large housing estate and is well used by dog walkers, people exercising, joggers, people laying out in the sun and children playing ball games. There is a small car park next to the main road.

The park sits adjacent to Braintree cemetery which includes a number of World War I graves of those soldiers who either returned home and later succumbed to injuries that were suffered or were unfortunately killed during training exercises; these graves look out over the park. Braintree District Council also planted five lime trees within the park in 2015 to mark the centenary, each one representing remembrance, renewal, reflection, respect and resilience.
