Many of our nation's best loved sports take place in parks and green spaces. Our Summer of Parks has already seen how these spaces are the start of countless sporting journeys and this week we discuss the wide variety of sports which our parks are home to.
The most popular sports in the country all take place in parks and green spaces and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved at grassroots level, whether you're looking for something serious or more recreational. Many clubs will offer taster sessions you can go along to and see if a sport is right for you.
One Small Thing
This week we're asking you to find out what organised sports take place in your park. Football, cricket, tennis and rugby are all likely candidates, depending on the size of your green space, but can you discover something you weren't previously aware was taking place?
This week our Summer of Parks is discussing organised sport in parks and here we take a journey from A to Z through 26 sports you may find in your local park or green space.
This week's spotlight shines on Sherwood Cricket Club in Kent, who have used Fields in Trust protection to secure their home ground and ensure organised sporting activity in Rochester is safeguarded for future generations.
Our latest staff blog comes from Fields in Trust Wales Manager, Rhodri Edwards, who discusses how playing rugby helped shape him as a person and still provides lasting benefits.
Fields in Trust is an independent charity with over 90 years’ experience protecting parks and green spaces. We work with landowners, community groups and policy makers to champion the value of our parks and green spaces to achieve better protection for their future at both local and national level.
You can donate to support our work to protect, support and champion green spaces for good.
