We're helping to provide some virtual green space whilst you stay home this spring by Bringing Parks to You! Our first stop is in the seaside town of Blackpool - immerse yourself in a trip to some of their local parks and green spaces.
Welcome to the park gates! Venture forth on a journey around your UK's Best Park 2019: Stanley Park.
Now that you're inside the park gates, take a look around the map of the various parks and green spaces within Blackpool. Can you locate all the spaces featured as A Park a Day below on the map?
Join us on the park bench (sat two metres away of course!) as we hear Sam's story. Sam has been volunteering with North Blackpool Pond Trail Friends of Park group as part of the Future Proof Parks programme - funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. We are working with Groundwork and the National Youth Agency on Future Proof Parks to engage young people through volunteering to preserve and celebrate their local heritage parks and green spaces.
"I've really enjoyed being a part of North Blackpool Pond Trail Friends of Park group and meeting new people who have the same interests as me. Working on a natural heritage project has given me the opportunity to not only learn about the history of my local park, but also learn new skills, such as identifying butterflies, using hand tools and being taught how to plant trees."
Sam, 16, is a young volunteer on the Future Proof Parks programme
Over at the bandstand it's party time and in Blackpool the celebration is for the success of the town and Stanley Park in UK's Best Park 2019. The space is home to the active Friends of Stanley Park who would usually meet regularly in the visitor centre next to the café. The group organise numerous events throughout the year including a series of popular concerts at the park's own bandstand.
"It is loved by locals and visitors alike, a beautiful, tranquil place away from the hustle and bustle of the Blackpool seafront. Great volunteers and staff keep it in tip top condition".

We hope that this brief trip to Blackpool brought a little virtual joy in these challenging times as we are all reminded what valuable and precious places our local parks and green spaces are. That's not the end though, our journey moves across to Antrim next and then on around the UK. Discover more of Bringing Parks to You and let us know where you think the tour should travel to!
